What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any situation involving sudden pain, injury, or damage to your teeth or gums that needs prompt attention. Severe toothaches, knocked-out or loose teeth, cracked or broken teeth, lost fillings or crowns, and swelling in the gums or face are all common examples. Not every situation is obvious, and that's okay. If you're unsure, call our team and we'll help you figure out the best next step. Dr. Pritz will take the time to listen, examine the area carefully, and explain what she finds in plain language, and you'll always have room to ask questions before any treatment begins.

Not always, but a toothache is your body's way of telling you something needs attention, so it's worth a call. Pain that is severe, doesn't ease up, or comes with swelling or a fever is a good reason to reach out right away. Even if it turns out to be minor, our team would rather hear from you early and help you understand what's going on. Call us at (702) 570-0606 and we'll talk through your symptoms and the best next step.

If it's an adult tooth, pick it up by the crown (the white part) and avoid touching the root. Gently rinse off any debris with milk or saline rather than scrubbing it, and if you can, place it back in the socket. If not, keep it moist in milk and call us right away, since acting quickly gives the tooth its best chance. Baby teeth are not typically replanted, so let us know if the tooth belongs to a child.

For dental pain, a chipped or broken tooth, a lost filling or crown, or a knocked-out tooth, calling our office is a great place to start. If you have heavy bleeding that won't stop, swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, or a serious injury to your head or face, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 first. When in doubt, reach out and we'll help you decide on the safest next step.

No. We welcome patients with or without insurance. Our team is happy to walk you through your options and what to expect before treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
